So your kid wants a dog huh?

So I have had some friends staying with me and their 3-year-old daughter was outside playing with my dogs yesterday afternoon. I am so glad that I have had the opportunity to see my dogs interact with such a small child because they are amazing! They never snap at her or growl or anything else scary and they allow her to torment them to a certain degree without even walking away. In fact my 120-something pound lab/mastiff mix is pretty much in love with her. Follows her EVERYWHERE! My other dog is a golden retriever. See totally adorable picture :-) So now you know the background...

So like I said, she was outside playing with the dogs yesterday and my phone rings....it is my neighbor and he says his daughter wants to come play with the girl in my yard. Sure no problem. So I go outside and this girl and her younger brother are hanging out talking to the little one in my yard through the fence. We do the reach-over and he passed the kids into my yard. Who then start SCREAMING in terror at my dogs. Uh....did you NOT see them through the fence? My dogs of course are like "what the hell is wrong with you? Maybe if I lick your face you will feel better". My neighbor does NOTHING. He just starts talking about how he would love to get a dog. UmmmKay....this only lasted about 5 mimutes and we were passing his kids back over to him because if they screamed and cried for a second longer I was going to have to start screaming myself.

My friend's daughter asked me why they left...I told her because they were scared of the dogs. She said "Axl was just licking her and giving her kisses." Out of the mouths of babes. Dear Neighbor, please don't get a dog until: 1. you build a fence, 2. your children learn to grow a pair and 3. they are old enough to help with the responsibility of it all. Thank you.
