So the army has this thing called the VTC (Video TeleConference). Basically you are told a day and time to show up and you go and wait your turn and then the put you in a conference room with two HUGE screens...one shows you and the other shows your loved one that is overseas. You get anywhere from 15-30 minuts (depending on many factors). Since the internet is down in the individual rooms and you can't use webcams in the internet cafe where my husband is stationed, this is the only way that we get to SEE each other right now. It is definitely a priviledge and I LOVE when we get a slot.
So, now you know the background...well last month the day that the VTC was being held was the weekend I was visiting California so I had to miss it. Today I just got on email that shows that we got a slot...for THIS Sunday....the day I am flying back from Las Vegas (going there with my husband's family). So that means I have to say "sorry can't make it" again :-( I know that my husband understands but I feel bad. I bet the people in charge are thinking "Dang, his wife doesn't care about him, she just travels and travels..." Which is not true, it has just been the last two times. GRRRR!!! If only tickets were easier to refund or move around but they are not and I know that spending time with my husbands family makes me feel better and keeps me out of a deployment rut. But what about what makes him feel better? I know he likes the VTC too!!
Well.....I just hope that they get the internet working soon where he is so that we can use the webcam. Other than that...I will NOT be traveling for the rest of the summer....that way I will be here if we are lucky enough to get a slot again.
